Refugio County Traffic Court Records
Traffic files live with the court that issued the ticket. In Refugio County, Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 and Precinct 2 handle fine-only and traffic matters. Each works its assigned lane. The state directory also lists municipal courts for Refugio, Woodsboro, and Bayside. Trust the citation itself for routing. The county's general district and County Court PDFs cannot stand in for a JP or city citation file.
Whatever court issued it keeps the case record. Expect a citation number and a response date. The record also shows the plea, any trial request, scheduled events, payment entries, and the final outcome. A charge on the citation is only an allegation, nothing more. A payment screen is not a certified court record. Even a blank web result settles nothing about case status.
Which Refugio Traffic Court Holds It
The Refugio County Justice Courts page lists both precincts with rooms, phones, faxes, forms, rules, and a payment link. JP1 sits at 808 Commerce Street, Room 111, and answers 361-526-4877. JP2 is in Room 103 at 361-526-1635. When a deadline is close, calling the right precinct matters.
City tickets go to the city court named on the ticket. Refugio Municipal Court is listed at 361-526-5364. Woodsboro Municipal Court answers 361-543-4506 and posts its procedures. Bayside Municipal Court is listed at 361-529-6520 and baysidecourt@att.net. The state directory shows no Austwell municipal court, so route an Austwell-area citation by the court name printed on it rather than guessing a city court.
Looking Up a Traffic Ticket
The county links GovRec for payments. The service posts no readable public search form. The municipal pages offer no cause-number database either. So treat GovRec as the payment route, not proof of a complete citation search. The state's narrow citations and notices repository does give text and Court/County controls. Still, it is not a general traffic docket.
- Read the issuing court, precinct or city, citation number, and appearance date from the ticket.
- Use the court’s official form or contact page to confirm the response method.
- Call the listed court for status, but do not treat the call as an appearance.
- Send a timely certified-mail response, appear at the counter, or act through an attorney when the form permits.
- Keep proof of delivery and ask the clerk to confirm the docket or payment status.
Lost the paper citation? Give the clerk a name and a narrow date range instead. Skip the county Kofile property-record portal, since it holds property files and no traffic cases.
A Call Is Not Appearance
The JP1 reply form puts it in bold: a telephone call is not an appearance. Your response must reach the court by the appearance date through certified mail, an in-person visit, or an attorney. Calling the clerk to confirm the right court is smart. You still have to file an accepted response.
The form lays out four paths. "Nolo contendere" means no contest. That is a plea choice, not a sign the ticket vanished. The signed response block asks for the date, the citation number, your printed name, and your driver-license number.
| Guilty | Trial is waived; payment and plea are sent as directed. |
|---|---|
| Nolo contendere | Trial is waived; the no-contest plea and payment are sent. |
| Not guilty, judge trial | Jury is waived and the court sets a bench-trial route. |
| Not guilty, jury trial | The court sets a jury-trial route. |
How to Find Your Traffic Court Date
The appearance date on the citation is the first date to track. The JP materials post no live calendar with court, judge, room, and time filters, unlike the County Court's dated PDF archive. So work through the court named on the citation. Confirm any later setting with that court directly. Keep the response, the mail receipt, and the clerk's confirmation.
| Citation number | The form’s local identifier field; no single fixed public format was documented. Keep the complete citation number. |
|---|---|
| Court | JP1, JP2, Refugio, Woodsboro, or Bayside Municipal Court as printed. |
| Appearance date | The deadline by which an accepted response must be received. |
| Later setting | A trial or other event assigned after the plea or request. |
| Status | Confirm directly because no complete countywide status screen was found. |
Court dates can shift. Check the latest notice and call before you travel, while still sending the required formal response.
Refugio Driving Safety Course Route
The JP1 form sets the deadline clearly. A written driving safety course request is due by the appearance date. The fee is a non-refundable $146, or $171 for a school-zone offense. The request needs a copy of your Texas driver license or specified qualifying proof, proof of liability insurance, and an eligibility statement. Mail it and it must be notarized.
Once granted, you get 90 days from the request to file course completion proof and a certified driving record. Ineligibility applies for several cases. Speeds at least 25 mph over the limit count. So do speeds of at least 95 mph, a construction zone with workers present, and CDL status. Those are the terms on the county's 2023 form. Verify the current form and fee with the court before sending funds or records.
Pay or Contest a Ticket
Paying and contesting send your case down different docket paths. Guilty or no contest means you waive trial under the reply form. You then send the stated payment. Not guilty means requesting a judge trial or a jury trial. Either way, meet the court's stated deadline and delivery rules.
| Point | Paying | Contesting |
|---|---|---|
| Plea | Guilty or no contest under the form. | Not guilty. |
| Trial | Waived. | Judge or jury trial requested. |
| Channel | Directed payment method, mail, or court route. | Written, in-person, or attorney response as allowed. |
| Record | Plea and payment become court events. | Request leads to a setting and later disposition. |
Do not miss the response date: The JP form warns that failure to respond can lead to an additional failure-to-appear charge and driver-license-renewal consequences. Contact the issuing court at once.
Refugio Payment Portals Have Limits
Refugio County's Justice page sends both precincts through GovRec for online payment. The JP1 form adds a fee. Internet payment costs 5% of the total. Expect quirks from the portal. A vendor page can fail to load or block a session. A missing result on the screen does not cancel your duty to respond. Your duty to respond to the ticket still stands. Paying online settles the transaction but does not replace the court record. So confirm the exact amount and the plea effect with the issuing court first. Paying a Refugio County traffic fine counts as a plea, not just a purchase. If you answer by mail, you may want a receipt. The JP1 form asks you to enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope. Keep that receipt with the citation and any court correspondence.
Traffic Court Record vs Driving Record
Two different offices keep two different files. The Refugio County traffic case record lives with the JP or municipal court that issued the citation, while the Texas driver-licensing agency keeps the driving record. Knowing the split keeps your docket request from landing on the wrong desk.
| Point | Court traffic record | Driving record |
|---|---|---|
| Custodian | Issuing JP or municipal court. | State driver-licensing agency. |
| Core content | Citation, plea, setting, payment, disposition. | State-maintained driving history. |
| Access route | Court form, clerk phone, counter, mail, or court-linked portal. | State agency record-request channel. |
| Best proof | Clerk-issued plain or certified case copy. | Record issued through the state process. |
One file cannot stand in for the other. A traffic docket entry can also lag behind what the clerk later files, so the court itself has the final word on the outcome.
Refugio Commercial Citation Forms
Commercial drivers get their own paperwork in Refugio County. The county publishes a Commercial Motor Vehicle Reply Form, and it warns that CDL holders cannot take the defensive-driving or deferred route offered on other tickets. The form lists commercial categories such as weight, motor-carrier authority, equipment, logbook, and proof requirements. Amounts vary by category and weight. Online payment still carries a 5% charge. Schedules change, so the citation and the current court form control what you owe and how you answer. Never copy a passenger-vehicle amount onto a commercial matter.
Copies and Fees
The JP1 form lists fine and course figures. But Refugio County posts no single copy price or certified-copy form for traffic records. Ask the issuing court directly. Question whether the record comes as a plain or certified copy. Also ask what page or certification charge applies. Ask whether you can order by mail or at the counter.
| Item | Published amount | Source limit |
|---|---|---|
| Driving safety course request | $146 | JP form; verify current eligibility and amount. |
| School-zone course request | $171 | JP form; verify with the issuing court. |
| GovRec online payment charge | 5% | Stated on the JP form. |
| Plain traffic case copy | Ask court | No universal local amount found. |
| Certified traffic case copy | Ask court | No universal local form or amount found. |
The official JP reply form carries a violation schedule with speeding and other fine examples. Its file path reflects 2023, so confirm the current total before you pay.
