Searching the Refugio Court Docket
Refugio has no single docket search box. Nothing spans Municipal Court, Justice Court, County Court, and District Court. So the paper itself is your map. Match the court name printed on it before anything else. The state directory lists Refugio Municipal Court. It shows no city search fields, no export tool, and no fee screen. That makes the city clerk the starting point for a municipal citation. County and district cases run through the county's dated PDF docket archives. Each court's own clerk rounds out the route.
- Read the court name, appearance date, and full citation or cause number.
- For a city case, call Refugio Municipal Court at 361-526-5364 and ask how to confirm its current docket entry.
- For JP1 or JP2, use the precinct named on the citation and follow its written reply form.
- For County Court or District Court, open the matching dated docket PDF and search the full number or last digits.
- Confirm the date, place, response method, and record status with the keeper before acting.
A phone call to the clerk can track down a Refugio record, though it may not count as a formal appearance. Let the citation or the current court form control what you file.
Refugio Citations Control the Route
A ticket written in Refugio does not always belong to Refugio Municipal Court. City ordinance cases usually stay with the city court named on the ticket. Class C municipal matters do the same. But a fine-only matter can instead name Justice Court Precinct 1 or Precinct 2. The county's general docket PDFs are no substitute for either city or JP citation records. Hang on to the original Refugio citation. Its court name, number, and appearance date are your best search keys. Is the heading unclear? Ask the issuing agency or the listed clerk which court actually filed it. Skip the County Clerk's property-record portal for a traffic matter. That portal searches land instruments, not the Refugio court docket.
Refugio routing rule: The court printed on the citation controls, even when several courts share the same city and courthouse area.
Refugio Municipal Court Basics
The May 2026 Office of Court Administration directory lists Refugio Municipal Court at P.O. Box 1020, Refugio, TX 78377-1020. Call 361-526-5364 or fax 361-526-5614. Judge Emi Pullin Riemenschneider is the presiding judge named there. The city exposes no online case-search form. Those details are the strongest current route to a municipal docket. Refugio Municipal Court handles the local lane: city ordinance matters and Class C cases within its authority. District felonies, major civil cases, probate files, and County Court misdemeanors live elsewhere. Ask the clerk about a Refugio docket entry. It may be viewed, copied, emailed, or picked up in person. The court posts no confirmed counter hours, online payment fields, copy prices, or live calendar filters. Remember that the OCA directory is a locator, not the case record itself. A judge's name says nothing about the status of any Refugio case. Nor does a mailing address.
Refugio Court Dockets at County Seat
Refugio is both a town and the county seat. That puts several record routes in one place. County Court, the District Clerk, the County Clerk, and both justice courts all work out of the governmental center. The address is 808 Commerce Street. County Judge records route through the County Clerk. District cases go through the District Clerk. JP1 sits in Room 111, and JP2 is in Room 103. The official County Court archive shows the local PDF model in practice. That official page posts dated docket files for county cases.

One distinction matters here. A county docket archive is not the Municipal Court record, so use it only when the case belongs to County Court. The District Court archive is separate again.
Court Dates and Settings in Refugio
Refugio Municipal Court posts no live calendar with date, judge, room, and setting filters. Confirm a city court date through the citation and the municipal clerk. County-level dates come from annual and date-linked PDFs. District dates come through the District Clerk's criminal and civil docket index. A docket date is a scheduled event. It is not proof of what later happened in the case.
| Date | The city citation or clerk-confirmed calendar date; county cases may use a dated PDF. |
|---|---|
| Time | The call time stated on the notice or docket. Some county samples show 8:30 a.m. |
| Courtroom | The room or building must be confirmed because the city source did not expose a room field. |
| Judge | The current OCA directory lists the municipal judge, but an assigned judge should be confirmed. |
| Setting Type | The purpose, such as appearance, plea, pretrial, motion, bench trial, or revocation. |
For any Refugio setting, save the notice and note who confirmed the date. Check again before travel if the date is near or the case was reset.
Refugio PDF Dockets Are Snapshots
The county's sample dockets list cause number, offense or matter, hearing type, attorney, bondsman, and cost or work fields. Local notes appear too, such as “RESET FROM BR DOCKET” and “Letter Mailed.” These entries help explain a setting, but they are not a full register of actions. A reset is not a dismissal. A plea docket label does not reveal the plea itself.
- Cause number
- The court's case identifier. An observed county criminal form is CR-#####.
- Hearing type
- The stated purpose of the setting, not its outcome.
- Reset
- A scheduling change that should lead to a search for the next date.
- Court costs
- A printed financial field that may not equal a live balance.
Do not assume these county fields match the Refugio Municipal Court system. Ask the municipal clerk how a city docket entry is displayed.
Traffic Tickets in Refugio
Start with the court named on your Refugio citation. It will be Municipal Court, JP1, or JP2. For a city citation, calling the municipal court is the quickest route. A justice court form takes a more formal response. JP1's form states one thing plainly. A phone call is not an appearance. The response must arrive by certified mail, in person, or through an attorney by the appearance date.
That JP form offers four pleas. The choices are guilty with trial waived, nolo contendere with trial waived, not guilty with a judge trial, and not guilty with a jury trial. Remember that these choices come from the justice court form. They may not apply to every Refugio Municipal Court case. Always read the form issued by the court named on your ticket.
Paying a fine is not the same as running a docket search. GovRec does handle JP payments for the county. However, its public citation fields are not readable for case lookup. For the full JP and municipal routing picture, see the county traffic ticket resource.
Refugio Courthouse Record History
Old Refugio County court records sometimes need a clerk's helping hand. Courthouse history explains why. The area's first courthouse was the Spanish mission itself. Later courthouses burned in 1879 and again in 1915. Atlee B. Ayres designed the present historic courthouse. It was finished in 1917, with wings added in the 1950s. A historical survey adds that when an 1865 courthouse was found unfit, the clerk kept county records at home. The Texas Historical Commission record shows the courthouse and its full history.

None of that history means a Refugio record was lost. It may not even still sit in the building. It simply means a genealogy or old-case request should be precise. Give the clerk a date span. Add the court level and the names involved. Include any cause or volume number you know. Then ask whether the material is scanned, bound, archived, or stored somewhere else entirely.
Where Refugio Cases Go
Where a case lands depends on the court named on your paperwork. Refugio Municipal Court handles only city matters. Those stay within its jurisdiction. County misdemeanors, probate, and certain other matters belong to the constitutional County Court. Felonies are different. They go to one of the multi-county district courts serving Refugio County. Broad district civil or family cases go there too. Justice matters stay with the precinct named on the paper.
Docket flow: Refugio Municipal Court › Refugio County Courts › District Court
These are court levels. They do not create an automatic transfer in every case. An appeal can also create a separate appellate record. For a local docket search, read the Refugio citation first. If it names a county or district court, take the Refugio County court docket route. Contact the proper clerk there. Federal matters are different and fall under the Southern District of Texas, Victoria Division.
Refugio Docket Access Stays Hybrid
Refugio docket access is a hybrid. It mixes paper notices, clerk contact, county PDFs, eFileTexas, and re:SearchTX. eFileTexas handles covered electronic filings. re:SearchTX opens statewide access to eligible electronic court records. Neither service offers a complete Refugio Municipal Court docket. The county's Kofile site covers property records only, so keep it separate from case lookups.
An archived Refugio Municipal Court COVID plan shows past work with remote proceedings. It also limited in-person appearances. Treat it as history, not a promise of video court today. Confirm the current appearance method with the municipal clerk. The county District Clerk posts standing orders on AI and electronic devices. Those district papers do not automatically govern Municipal Court.
Refugio offers no city API, bulk export, result limit, update schedule, or public reminder program. When an online search comes up empty, go back to the clerk. A missing online result never means no case exists.
Refugio Court Date Verification
Before any Refugio appearance, verify five facts. Get the court name, the complete case number, the date, the time, and the location. Ask the clerk whether a reset, continuance, cancellation, or new notice has been entered. If an attorney is involved, compare the clerk's answer with counsel's latest notice. Keep a copy of whatever source you relied on.
Refugio publishes no courthouse parking map. It also posts no security walkthrough, accessible entrance guide, or current public Wi-Fi and device policy. Call ahead about access needs. Do not carry Woodsboro or federal building rules onto a Refugio proceeding. Each court controls its own room.
Need a city record rather than a date? Ask the Refugio Municipal Court clerk for the docket sheet, disposition, order, or certified copy by name. Ask about the fee, the delivery method, and the expected wait. The city publishes no universal record-request form or fixed turnaround.
Refugio Court Record Access Rules
Refugio court records vary in status. They can be open, redacted, sealed, or restricted depending on the record and the law that governs it. The court clerk handles ordinary case files under common law, statutes, rules, and court orders. Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 12 reaches certain non-adjudicative judicial records. It does not override the limits on a Refugio case file.
Access boundary: Texas OCA policy separates court case records from ordinary Texas Public Information Act requests.
Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 76a supplies the civil sealing framework and presumption of openness.
Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55 governs expunctions that can restrict public identifying information.
A docket row you can see does not make every pleading, home address, juvenile record, DFPS item, or protected attachment public. Ask the Refugio keeper what may be inspected or copied, and whether certification is available.
Three Refugio Records, Three Uses
Refugio County keeps three kinds of records, and each answers a different question. A filing receipt confirms a document went through an electronic filing process. A Refugio docket entry records a case event or a court setting. A clerk-certified paper proves the record is authentic. None of the three proves the others are current. Anything time-sensitive needs comparison. So put the filed notice next to the latest Refugio County court docket and the clerk's own response. If the clerk sends your request to another court, write down the new keeper. Then search again with the full case number.
